How to install Cr-48 Chromebook Recovery.

1: Check for the ‘Chrome OS‘ is missing or damaged” message, If you don’t see this message, trigger this screen by pressing the recovery button on your Chromebook. Consult the help information provided by your Cr-48 Chromebook manufacturer to see where this button is located on your device.

2: Create the recovery USB flash drive,

OS: for Windows;

  1. Click this link to download the image: Download cr48 Chromebook Recovery
  2. Extract the .bin file from the .zip you just downloaded (e.g. chromeos__x86-mario_recovery_beta-channel_mp.bin).
  3. Download a Windows image writer tool (e.g. Image Writer for Windows).
  4. Follow the instructions in the image writer tool and choose the download binary file (e.g. chromeos__x86-mario_recovery_beta-channel_mp.img ) to burn to a USB drive. If you’re using Image Writer for Windows, you may have to manually rename the image file to end in .img.

OS: for Macintosh;

The easiest way to create the recovery flash drive is to use the Recovery Tool. The tool may not be available in all languages.

  2. Run the tool and follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

OS: for Linux;

The easiest way to create the recovery flash drive is to use the Recovery Tool. The tool may not be available in all languages.

  2. Modify the script permissions to allow execution with the following command: $ sudo chmod 755 linux_recovery.sh
  3. Run the script with root privileges with the following command: $ sudo bash linux_recovery.sh.
  4. Follow the prompts from the tool to complete building the operating system image.

3:Reinstall the Chrome operating system (OS)

  1. Start your Chromebook.
  2. When the “Chrome OS is missing or damaged” screen appears, insert the USB flash drive you created into the USB port on your Chromebook.
  3. Wait for the Chromebook to boot up from the flash drive.
  4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
  5. On successful installation of the Chrome operating system, your Chromebook will automatically restart.
  6. Remove the USB flash drive from your Chromebook.

You should now be able to start and use your Chromebook as normal.
